Even if you don't own a boat, you can rent some thinking time at several locations throughout the Triangle. Here's a quick rundown of where, for as little as $3 an hour, you can experience your own Walden Pond.

GENERAL RULES:

-Essential equipment -- oars/paddles, life vests -- are included in rental.

- Deposits are required, typically ranging from $5 for a Canoe or Kayak to $20 for a Sunfish sailboat.

- Rental hours can vary. Call ahead to check.

- Reduced half and full-day rates are available in some instances.

Lake Johnson

Location: 4600 Avent Ferry Road, Raleigh.

Lake Wheeler
