Home Sick for the Holidays

Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA., the things I miss the most are the Christmas flower show at Phipps Conservatory, the Christmas windows at Kaufmann's Department Store, Santa Claus coming around the neighborhood on a fire truck. Going to the Strip District for the freshest foods. I moved to Raleigh two years ago to be close to my son and daughter-in-law. The marriage did not work out unfortunatly and now I find myself helping my son move into his first apartment. Christmas will be special this year because it will be different without alot of family. I will have my original family back. My ex-husband of 37 years is coming to spend Christmas with my son and me. You just never know how things are going to turn out. I have decided to move back to Pittsburgh because I am so homesick. Raleigh is nice and I have found my favorite spots here. Logan's, the farmer's market, the flea market at the fairgrounds, Homewood garden center, but its not home and its hard to start a new life at age 60. I will miss the wonderful friend's I have made here in Falls River. Southern hospitality is the best. I wish everyone in Raleigh and Pittsburgh a happy holiday.

My favorite and least favorite

Favorite

Wolfpack clobbers (insert nationally ranked team name here) in (insert name of any sport).

Unfortunately, this headline usually follows within weeks.

NC State loses to (insert worst team name in any conference) in final seconds.

I think cardiologists should give a discount to State supporters.

HOMESICK HOLIDAYS

I'm from upstate New York and what I miss most is family and friends.when I read the article in the news paper it was exactly what I was feeling.Thanksgiving was depressing . I'm use to being with alot of family even though my husband and parents have moved to N.C. with me.I'm not looking forward to x mas I dont even want to do x mas.We have been down here for about a year and a half. The first year we had some family come down. It seems now no one wants to come down. Because of our jobs were unable to visit family during holidays. I feel lonely.

When I was little x mas eve we would go to my fathers parents house and all his family would be there. my fathers uncle would dress up as santa claus, it was really fun. x mas day we would go to my mothers parents house with most of her family there. My grandmothers cooking was so good.We usually saw lots of snow by then it was pretty. When I grew up we still saw alot of family. Now in n.c. it is sad during this time of the year.Did I mention I feel lonely, yeah I think I did. It's comforting to know someone else feels the same way, referring to the article.

oh, one more thing I miss, good bread. N.C. does not have alot of Italian bread or rye bread. where I'm from in New York there were alot of bakerys.

           Thanks for listening
(Lazy) Black Friday

Spent it lounging around like a slug. No shopping, no travelling - in fact, very little actual motion.

Not that I didn't want to camp out on a sidewalk for hours in the hopes of getting 15% off, just as the more sensable folk who strolled in at 10 AM would get. I burned for such an opportunity. Sadly, I had to water my dog so I missed all the mercantile fun.

It's really great when somebody else does all the arranging for best eye appeal and all you've got to do is snap a picture! I love finding photo ops like this too.

Great Moon shot

That's one long click for a shutter and one giant image for a camera!

Oh, and if you're interesting in how to capture the color of the Moon:
http://www.colormoon.pt.to/

Personally I think this site has some great info too.

Unraveling the maze

One could place a little pile of sugar up there and see how quickly the ants can master a column through the maze - might even be great for some macro photography assuming one has the patience to chill out on an autumn day and wait for nature to strike a pose.
